Privacy policy

Data stored only on your device

The app stores the following in its private storage on your phone:

• Your alarms: time, label, repeat days, sound, fade-in duration and challenge settings. For the Scan a code challenge this includes the value of the code you registered and the name you gave it.
• Your settings: theme and time format.

This data is never sent to us. It is deleted when you delete the alarm or uninstall the app.

Camera

The camera is only used while you register or scan a code. Camera frames are analysed on your device using Google ML Kit barcode scanning. No images or video are saved or uploaded. As part of providing ML Kit, Google may collect limited usage and performance information about the ML Kit library itself, such as device information, the app's package name and version, and how the scanning feature performs. This does not include camera images or the codes you scan; see Google's ML Kit terms and Google's privacy policy.

Analytics and crash reports

To understand how the app is used and to fix bugs, the app sends usage events and crash reports to PostHog, a product analytics service. Data is sent encrypted (HTTPS) to PostHog's servers in the EU. The data is linked to a random identifier created by the app, not to your name, email or any account. The following is collected:

• Alarm events: when an alarm is created, starts ringing and is dismissed, including the alarm time, your local time, the type of challenge, whether the alarm repeats, how it was dismissed and how long it rang.
• Which screens of the app you view.
• When the app is closed from the recent apps screen.
• Crash and error reports, including technical error details.
• Technical information added by the analytics library, such as device model and manufacturer, Android version, app version, language, time zone and screen size, and app lifecycle events such as the app being opened or installed.
• Your approximate location (country and city). PostHog receives your IP address when the data is sent, uses it only to determine this location and then discards it without storing it. The app never accesses your device's location.

We do not collect your alarm labels, the codes you scan, your chosen sounds or any camera images.

We process this data based on our legitimate interest in keeping the app reliable and improving it (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). PostHog processes the data on our behalf; see PostHog's privacy policy.

Android backup

If you have enabled Google backup on your phone, Android may include the app's data (such as your alarms) in your device backup. This backup is handled by Google under your Google account settings, not by us.

Permissions

• Camera: To scan the QR code or barcode for the Scan a code challenge, and to register that code. Only used while scanning.
• Notifications: To show the alarm notification when an alarm rings.
• Alarms (exact alarms): To ring at exactly the time you set.
• Full-screen notifications: To show the alarm screen over the lock screen.
• Run at startup: To reschedule your alarms after the phone restarts.
• Foreground service (media playback): To keep playing the alarm sound while the alarm rings.
• Vibration: To vibrate when an alarm rings.
• Internet and network state: Only to send the analytics and crash reports described above.

What we don't do

• No ads and no advertising identifiers.
• No accounts or sign-in.
• No access to your device's location (such as GPS), microphone, contacts or files.
• We don't sell your data or share it for marketing.

Data retention

Data on your device is kept until you delete it or uninstall the app. Analytics data and crash reports, including approximate location, are kept for 12 months after they are collected and are then deleted.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data, to object to its processing and to restrict it. Because analytics data is linked only to a random identifier, we usually cannot tell which data belongs to you. If you contact us, we will do our best to help, for example based on your device model and when you used the app. You can stop all future data collection at any time by uninstalling the app, which also deletes its random identifier.

You can also file a complaint with the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet) or the data protection authority in your country.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app changes. The effective date at the top shows when it was last updated.
